Modern Family star has facial surgery to remove cancer

The actor has not gone into further detail about the severity of the cancer.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, of ABC’s Modern Family fame underwent facial surgery following a cancer scare.

The actor revealed via Instagram, that he had skin cancer removed from his face. Ferguson posted a picture to the site post-surgery, with a bandage on the right side of his face. He maintained a sense of humor about the situation, posting,”Thank you to Dr. Bennett & his entire team for taking the cancer out of my face.” He tagged the hair and makeup team on Modern Family and added, “Good luck hiding the stitches tomorrow!”

Ferguson added #youwannapieceofme and #spf75 to the photo, maintaining his good spirits.

Cancer is no stranger to Ferguson’s family, as his husband, Justin Mikita, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when he was 13 years old. Mikita is now cancer-free at the age of 29, but still undergoes frequent checkups to ensure his health.

The two frequently attend fundraiser and charity events for cancer treatment and diagnosis. Jesse told E! News at the Stand Up To Cancer event in 2014, “He was diagnosed when he was 13 and that’s sort of an age when you don’t really realize what’s going on. He goes in once a year for his check-up to make sure he’s still cancer free so he’s always reminded of it.”
